Надо писать свой дневник. Хоть мне и 65-й год, но учиться еще можно. И должно. Мне приходится писать и говорить об отце. Я это делаю не так хорошо, как могла бы, если бы у меня техника слова была бы лучше развита. Я в шутку говорю, что я унаследовала от отца его неумение писать. Это наполовину шутка. Он умел сильно, страстно и глубоко думать и чувствовать и не жалел сил для того, чтобы суметь это выразить. Но процесс этого выражения был тяжел: мы — его переписчицы и переписчики — это хорошо знаем. Не десятки, а сотни раз он переделывал написанное и до старости учился писать.
А мне, кроме того, что следовало бы оставить что-нибудь ценное об отце — приходится зарабатывать на свою жизнь. Хочу попробовать писательство.

Sukhotin's wife died later that year, and on 9 October, Tatiana announced her desire to marry Sukhotin to her father, who responded with a fiercely uncompromising rejection ("But why a pure girl should want to get mixed up in such a business is beyond me").[citation needed]
