По безнадеге напоминает русскую продукцию. Реализм зашкаливает. Если не слушать, до диалоги кажутся жутко длинными.
Теток жалко. Мужики - полный отстой. Рекомендовать этот фильм женщинам я бы не рискнул. Разве что - в чисто учебных целях.
Некоторые сцены прекрасны: английский юмор, европейское качество.

Когда г. герой наконец-то упрыгал на одной ножке, не забыв прихватить чужие деньги, я вздохнул с облегчением.
Трагикомедия? Ну, можно и так сказать.

Early life

Sharp was born in Manchester, England with the name of Karen Makinson. She was adopted by a couple from Merseyside and raised in Formby.

Sharp has stated that she started acting because, as a child, she felt "invisible" and did not "quite fit in."[2] She has said that her inspiration to act came from watching Dick Emery on television.[3]

Plot

After a rough sexual encounter with a married woman in a Manchester alley becomes a rape, Johnny Fletcher steals a car and flees for Dalston, a "scrawny, unpretentious area" in the east of London. He seeks refuge with his former girlfriend, fellow Mancunian Louise. Louise is not happy to see her ex. She works as a file clerk and shares a rental house with two flatmates, Sophie, a young party girl, and primary tenant Sandra, a nurse who's away on holiday.

Johnny immediately seduces Sophie, but soon tires of her and embarks on an extended odyssey among the destitute and despairing of London. During his encounters, Johnny expounds his world-view at long and lyrical length to anyone who will listen, whether Archie, a Scottish boy yelling "Maggie!" at the top of his voice he comes across in Brewer Street, or Brian, a security guard planning for his future amidst acres of empty space, whom Johnny marks down as having, "the most tedious job in England"

After pursuing and then rejecting a drunken woman, Johnny is tossed out of a sublet by a young cafe worker he's followed home. He hitches a ride with a man who's hanging posters around town. The poster man, exasperated by Johnny's non-stop haranguing, kicks him several times, driving off with Johnny's only possession, a duffel bag with his clothes and books. Johnny wanders the streets and, with no provocation, is severely beaten by thugs.

He manages to return to Louise's home, where Jeremy (aka Sebastian), a pathological sexual predator and Sandra's landlord, has let himself in. Sophie is desperate to get Jeremy out of the house after a sexual encounter with him had turned into rape. She and Louise try to keep Johnny quiet but Jeremy awakens to find Johnny, injured and having a fit.

Sandra returns from her trip to Zimbabwe and tends to Johnny. Louise rids the house of Jeremy. She and Johnny have a reconciliation. Feeling desolate and rejected, Sophie flees the house with her few possessions. Louise leaves for work, promising to return and go back to Manchester with Johnny. But Johnny steals cash that Sebastian had left in the house and hobbles out into the streets.

Early life
Leigh was born to Phyllis Pauline (née Cousin) and Alfred Abraham Leigh, a doctor.[9] Leigh was born at Brocket Hall, Hertfordshire,[10] because his mother, in her confinement, went to stay with her parents for comfort and support while her husband was serving as a captain in the Royal Army Medical Corps. Leigh was brought up in Broughton, Salford. He is from a Jewish immigrant family whose surname, originally Lieberman, had been anglicised in 1939 "for obvious reasons"

After weeks of improvisations between Leigh and his cast, filming took place in London from 9 September to 16 December 1992. Sandra's Neo-Gothic home was an actual interior/exterior location that Leigh featured heavily, particularly in the last shot of the film, as its corner location allowed for wide street views.[7]

Trama

Después de un encuentro sexual con una mujer casada en un callejón en Mánchester que se convierte en una violación, Johnny (David Thewlis) roba un coche y huye de su ciudad natal a Londres para buscar refugio en la casa de su ex novia, Louise (Lesley Sharp).

Johnny es un hombre inteligente, educado y elocuente pero con una profunda amargura que siempre le mantiene al límite de una conducta sádica. En Londres seduce a la compañera de piso de Louise, Sophie (Katrin Cartlidge), antes de embarcarse en una odisea en la que compartirá sus días entre indigentes y desesperados personajes de los bajos fondos de la capital del Reino Unido.

Durante sus encuentros en el sórdido Londres, Johnny expone su visión del mundo (que en diferentes instancias parece ser fatalista, nihilista o transhumanista) a todos aquellas personas que lo escuchen. Mientras tanto, en la casa de su ex novia, la presencia del dueño psicópata del edificio acecha desde el fondo.

Finalmente este periplo por los bajos fondos acaba cuando Johnny sufre una paliza a manos de unos matones y debe volver a casa de su ex novia, donde se encuentra de vuelta a una de las compañeras del piso que le obliga a marcharse y a lanzarse de nuevo al mundo como ha hecho muchas veces anteriormente.
