The small Eastern European country of Georgia is becoming an international destination for surrogacy, a push that's driven by the war in Ukraine and increasing interest in surrogacy worldwide. But even as demand for surrogates skyrockets, the country is divided on what this industry means for Georgian women.

As a child of a surrogate mother, I've always been against surrogacy. I love my mother, but she carried around a lot of mental illness (depression, schizophrenia) which she unfortunately passed onto me. I've never understood why people who can't get pregnant cannot simply adopt one of the millions of unwanted children out there, instead of spending tens of thousands of dollars and going so far out of your way to create a biological offspring. I implore anyone out out there to conisder adoption instead!!
