Olga Rudge (13 April 1895 – 15 March 1996) was an American-born concert violinist, now mainly remembered as the long-time mistress of the poet Ezra Pound, by whom she had a daughter, Mary.
At this time Pound was developing his own musical interests, composing an opera and advancing the work of American composer George Antheil. Antheil and Rudge were to enjoy a long professional collaboration dating from this period, which also marked the beginning of her sexual relationship with Pound.

Although her family disapproved, Peggy and Red married on September 2, 1922, and the best man at their wedding was John Marsh, who would become her second husband.

"Mitchell began collecting erotica from book shops in New York City while in her twenties.[127] She and her friends were flamboyant in 1925. The newlywed Marshes and their social group were interested in "all forms of sexual expression".[128] Mitchell discussed her interest in "dirty" book shops and sexually explicit prose in letters to a friend, Harvey Smith. Smith noted her favorite reads were Fanny Hill, The Perfumed Garden and Aphrodite.[129]

Mitchell developed an appreciation for the works of Southern writer James Branch Cabell, and his 1919 classic, Jurgen, A Comedy of Justice.[127] She read books about sexology,[129] and took particular interest in the case studies of Havelock Ellis, a British physician who studied human sexuality.[130] During this period in which Mitchell was reading pornography and sexology, she was also writing Gone with the Wind.[131]

"In 1939, her intimate companion at the time, the literary scholar and Kansas City native Grace Frick, invited Yourcenar to the United States to escape the outbreak of World War II in Europe. She lectured in comparative literature in New York City and Sarah Lawrence College.[2]

Yourcenar was lesbian; she and Frick became lovers in 1937 and remained together until Frick's death in 1979. After ten years spent in Hartford, Connecticut, they bought a house in Northeast Harbor, Maine, on Mount Desert Island, where they lived for decades.[3] They are buried alongside each other at Brookside Cemetery, Mount Desert, Maine.[4]
